Agreeing to these terms
By creating an account, signing in or using UnderBudget, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
Your account
- Accounts are by invitation. You must be at least 18 and able to agree to these terms.
- Keep your password private and your sign-in secure; we recommend two-factor sign-in. You're responsible for what happens under your account, including what people in your household do with shared budgets.
- Tell us at [contact email] if you think someone else has used your account.
What UnderBudget is (and isn't)
- UnderBudget is a tool for tracking your budget and spending. It only reads your bank data: it can't move money, make payments or open accounts.
- It isn't financial, tax, legal or investment advice. Budgets, projections, bills and suggestions are estimates to help you plan. Check important numbers against your bank.
- We may change, add or remove features as the service develops, and the service may sometimes be unavailable.
Bank connections
Bank linking is provided by Plaid, a separate company with its own terms. When you link a bank you authorize Plaid, and us, to get your account information on your behalf. Banks and Plaid can delay, change or stop data, so balances and transactions may be late, missing or wrong. You can disconnect a bank at any time on the Accounts page.
AI features
Start with AI, Suggest bills and AI Auto-Categorize send the data described in the Privacy Policy to Anthropic, only after you allow it and only when you click them. AI output can be wrong or incomplete. Review it before you save. Daily limits apply.
Acceptable use
Don't:
- use someone else's account or bank login, or link accounts you aren't allowed to access;
- try to reach other people's data, get around limits or security, or probe the service for weaknesses without our written permission;
- overload the service, scrape it, or use it to build a competing product;
- use it for anything illegal.
Your data
Your data stays yours. You let us store and process it only to run UnderBudget for you, as the Privacy Policy describes. We don't sell it.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account, which removes your data as the Privacy Policy describes. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk, and we'll tell you when we reasonably can.
Disclaimers and liability
UnderBudget is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We aren't responsible for decisions you make based on the app, or for the accuracy of data from your bank or its providers.
To the fullest extent the law allows, UnderBudget isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost profits or data, and its total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [state], United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app before a significant change takes effect; using UnderBudget after that means you accept the new terms. Paid plans will come with their own billing terms when they're offered.
