Set Up a Split Cost Rule

If you split monthly costs with someone else — groceries, utilities, rent — a split cost rule calculates your share for a category (or one subcategory within it) at whatever percentage you set, for any month you choose.

  1. 1

    Open the rules manager

Go to Settings and click Edit Split Cost Rules. You can also get there from the Monthly Overview page — click Calculate Split Costs, then New Rule.

  2. 2

    Click New Rule

Give it a name, like Groceries Split.

  3. 3

    Choose what it applies to

Pick a Category — this covers everything spent in it. If you only want to split one part of it, also pick a Subcategory (e.g. Bills → Utilities, leaving other Bills subcategories out).

  4. 4

    Set the split percentage

Split % defaults to 50 for an even split, but you can set any percentage.

  5. 5

    Save the rule

It's now reusable every month — no need to recreate it.

  6. 6

    Run the calculation

On the Monthly Overview page, click Calculate Split Costs, check the rule(s) you want to run for that month, and click Calculate. You'll see the total spent and your share for each rule, plus a combined total.

Tip: The calculation nets out credits and refunds in that category for the month — so a partial refund won't inflate what you owe.
