Link a Bank Account with SimpleFIN
Under Budget connects to your bank through SimpleFIN Bridge, a third-party service that supports thousands of banks and credit unions.
You'll need your own SimpleFIN Bridge account, which SimpleFIN charges a small subscription for — see bridge.simplefin.org for current pricing. Under Budget never sees your bank login.
- 1
Go to Accounts
Open the Accounts page from the header nav.
- 2
Click Connect Bank
This opens a dialog that walks you through linking an account.
- 3
Get a setup token from SimpleFIN
If you don't already have a SimpleFIN Bridge account, click Go to bridge.simplefin.org to link your bank. There you'll search for your bank, sign in with your bank credentials (SimpleFIN never shares them with Under Budget), and get a one-time setup token.
- 4
Paste the setup token
Back in Under Budget, paste the token into the field and continue.
- 5
Choose how to map each account
SimpleFIN reports back every account it found at that bank. For each one, choose whether to create a new Under Budget account for it or link it to an account you already have, and set its account type (checking, savings, credit card, loan, investment, or other). The type files it under Depository, Credit, Loans or Investments on the Accounts page.

Review what comes in
Under Budget pulls in balances and recent transactions right away. New transactions land in the review queue (Transactions → Review queue) — you confirm the category (or let a rule handle it) and import them, rather than them appearing directly in your history. While any are waiting, a green count shows on Transactions in the top menu (on a phone, on the menu button).
With several accounts linked, use the queue's search and Filters (account, amount) to review one account at a time. Import and Select all only apply to the transactions you're viewing; the rest wait, untouched, until you clear the filter.
Tip: Each account tile on the Accounts page shows its own status pill, from what SimpleFIN reported for that account on the last sync that checked it: OK; Needs Auth (SimpleFIN says the bank login needs you to sign in again); Access revoked or Payment needed (fix these at SimpleFIN Bridge); or a temporary problem, like Bank error, Incomplete, Request failed or Unavailable, that usually clears on the next try. Refreshing one account only changes that account's pill. Hover or click a pill for what SimpleFIN said and what to do.
SimpleFIN only refreshes your bank's data about once a day. Use Sync Now on an account tile to pull whatever SimpleFIN already has, or Refresh SimpleFIN Connection to re-pull that account's transactions if something seems to be missing. It starts from the account's most recent transaction (you can pick an earlier date, up to 89 days back: SimpleFIN keeps 90, and the extra day keeps the request safely inside that), only touches that account, and pulls its transactions even if it's set to fetch its balance only.
To refresh just some accounts, click Refresh (on Accounts or Transactions), then open the accounts selected list and untick the ones to leave alone. Everything is ticked each time the dialog opens.
Only want an account's balance kept current? Expand its tile on the Accounts page and set What to fetch to Balance only. Every sync (daily, Sync Now and Refresh) still updates its balance, but its transactions never reach your review queue. Other accounts keep pulling transactions as usual.
